Come on now, some of you must have culture, opera anyone?

I'm searching for other opera singers, opera majors going for their undergrad, graduate, or doctoral degree, or anyone who appreciates opera. Hell, I'd settle for someone who knows a bit of classical music. And no, as much as I love it, The Phantom of the Opera does not count as opera. lol Neither does Les Misserables, even if ninety-nine percent of the lines are sung. If you're out there, please contact me. I could use some opera geek friends to chat with, a man who appreciates the art form and can sing with me? attend concerts with me? or a mentor, you know someone blind and in opera that could offer advice, guideance and encouragement. If you fit any of these criteria please leave a message here. I'm also looking for a good place to find complete lebrettos in Braille, scores would also be nice, but as I'm still working on my ability to read Braille music, and as I learn all of my music by ear, lebrettos would be considerably more helpful than would complete scores. Anyone's guidedog sing opera? Mine didn't, but for all of the recitals that she spent laying on my feet she sure should know enough about it to. My Siamese sing opera, but they're not very good. Don't tell them that I said that.

Hey LaMusique, I'm actually going to be performing with the Colorado All-State Choir soon. I'm in choir adn we sing a lot of classicla but not opera. So, you can chat with me about music whenever I'm on, if you'd like. Be happy to help!

My culture consists of drunkin keggers, hard licker, dear hunting, country music, and chewing tabaco. Oh I also own three hunting dogs.

First of all, Grace Song, it's nice to heare from you. All state, good for you, you go girl! To Blindguy, haven't you got anything better to do than go around leaving mocking, rude, and often offensive posts on other people's boards? I mean, come on here, if you see a topic on something that you don't like, just don't enter on it. Next, Candicat, you yourself have worked on some operatic pieces, and some broadway, and I know you do appreciate the art form, even if you choose to make it appear as though you don't care for it. So, that being the case, I would deeply appreciate it if you wouldn't refer to it as shit and say that we should fuck it. rofl Em, I don't know where you are getting this stuff. My criteria for a man are based primarily on kindness, inteligence, and a well rounded personality. Well rounded, meaning that they appreciate all kinds of music, food, art, sports, activities, books, etc. It is important to me that my friends and potential love interests share in my interests, but that doesn't mean that they need be as absorbed in and obsessed with opera as I am. Heck, if they like dog sledding, Indian food, camping, and Dean Koontz novels, than it's fine if they don't like opera, going to craft fairs and cooking. They just have to be nice about my opera, and not refer to it as fucking shit. That does tend to get on my nerves, just a bit. Oh, and I have an atomic kitten cd around here somewhere, I've got to finish unpacking from our second weird move in less than six months. If anybody else has any comments, suggestions, objections, or thoughts, feel free. Oh, yeah, and as for some one "fucking me" or giving me a "good fuck" what ever it was that you said Candi, or was that Em? No matter, the point is, I don't "fuck" I make love. Get it strait.

Post 9 by Damia (I'm oppinionated deal with it.) on Friday, 03-Feb-2006 21:51:32

heather tis the same action and i know because thus is the same between em and I. The point is how ever that u get allot of your attraction to guys on if they like exactly what u like. You don't try out new things with people u have your comfort zone that u choose not to leave u can't relax you're so uptight and ready to put other people down and when u r given advice u take it as an insult I say openly that i like art music. I do like it. deffinatly not all the time. Kyle doesn't like it he'd prefur tupac, but just because he tried to give u advice based off what he sees u don't have to take it as an insult.

HEy HEther, don't know why these people are saying opera is not good at all. I've always liked it, and always will.

Post 11 by Resonant (Find me alive.) on Saturday, 04-Feb-2006 5:17:31

Well, I'm definitely no performer, and opera's not my favourite music form, but I'll add my name to the list of appreciative types. The romantic era's my preference, Dvorak's Sampson and Delila makes me melt in a puddle of goo every time, and I'm going mental trying to find affordable tickets to a really fantastic performance of Madam Butterfly that's coming to Perth in a month. We never get decent opera here! And on the braille music thing, don't give up on it. Single line singing really is where it's most useful, and it really is a huge help to be able to sightread your lines. Especially in chorus or harmony work.

Post 12 by SensuallyNaturallyLiving4Today (LivingLifeAndLovingItToo) on Saturday, 04-Feb-2006 11:43:12

To Va3ets, thanks, it's good to know that there are others out there who appreciate the art form. Your support is invaluable. Yours as well Resonant. I love Sampson and Delilla, but have never seen it. I don't own the cd yet, but I have taken it out of the Sibley Music Library at Eastman two or three times. I saw Madame Butterfly just this past summer in Chataqua, and it was wonderful. I was proud of my friend Mike, he didn't fall asleep, like he did last year. Although I can't excuse it I can forgive it, after all we were seeing the Brahms Requium, and the choir was not as good as I would have hoped for in Chataqua. The orchestra also was not bad, but something in their interpretation was a bit off. And now, to Candi cat, I am not offended by people who make statements about me, who actually know me, but if someone who has only spoken to me a few times, and who has only ever recieved outside information about me from one individual source, and makes generalizations and statements about me I do get a bit upset. I would certainly not consider myself limited. I have been to operas, broad way shows, strait theatre plays, John Denver concerts, that covers folk, Ireish music concerts, yay, go world music, a Trans Siberian Orchestra concert, which if any of you are not aware, is a rock group, not a real orchestra, Statler Brothers' and Alabama concerts, there's country, and numerous classical music concerts. I enjoyed them all. I read every thing from the classics, to trashy romance novels, to mystery, Horror, to fantasy, animal stories, and childrens' stories. I love Indian food, but also enjoy Japanese, Chinese, Italian, South Western, French, and Ethiopian food. Now, some one tell me that I'm closeminded and only stay with in my comfort zone. Just because I don't feel the need to hang out at clubs, or go bar hopping does not make me limited. Anyone want to back me up here? Well, all, have a musical day.

Heather, as I have told you before, music can be respected yes, but what oen might like in their personal collections is totally different. Give me some good Rock out of the 70's and 80's and I'll be happy. I also have an interesting taste for *some* dance music out there.

I don't think Heather implied that there was anything wrong with going to a bar, or that any of you guys were regular drunks, just that it's not everyone's thing. Anyway, just a thought, I'm not getting into the personal stuff.
and the Brahms requiem, probably would have put me to sleep as well. hehe. Fore's is gorgeous though, as is Mozzart's I suppose.

I'm not a huge opera fan, but some classical music i just adore. More rennaissance and baroche rather than classical...i really can't spell it sorry. i'm studying rennaissance music for my high school music exams and I just melt if i hear stuff with lots of harmony lines.

I am not a big opera fan although I do like Orfeo, carmina buranna, and the John Adams operas are interesting! I'd rather listen to Bach corrals though or some Russel Watson or Andrea Bochelli. Sorry for the misspellings, I've only heard the titles, not read them so am trying to spell them finetically. Just as a side note, the topic you choose for this could be insulting to some people, it makes you come across as a snob. I really hope you aren't like the typical voice major! We have many of those in the music conservitory here at Purchase, which I am a member of, and for the most part, they are difficult to be around for more than say five minutes... Fight the stereotype girl!
